NEW TOUR FOR 2010

This is the one tour we had problems thinking of a name for because quite simply there are so many brilliant roads to ride and places to experience it is hard to summarise this tour in a few words.

Following an early morning Euro Tunnel crossing we make a quick transit through Northern France reaching Reims, the capital of the Champagne region by lunchtime.  Continuing on directly through the vineyards we will pass some of the big name Champagne producers of the region such as Bollinger and Laurent-Perrier before arriving at our first overnight stay in a Champenois styled, half-timbered 17th century hotel in the heart of the Orient forest nature reserve .

The next day we ride some great roads as we head through the Jura Mountains to the lake side town of Annecy.  Our three star luxury hotel right in the centre of the town will become our base for the next two nights. From here we ride out to Chamonix and to the impressive Mont Blanc. The medieval town of Annecy is one of the most beautiful and popular resort towns of the French Alps and with a warren of back streets, passages and arcaded houses it is just waiting to be explored.

Riding further south we crisscross the Hautes-Alps or Maritime Alps as they are also known and triumph over some of the famous Cols which make this place a bikers dream. By the end of today you will be able to add the Col Du Lautaret, De I’Izoard and De Vars to your growing list of conquests.

For the next four nights we base ourselves in the sixteenth century town of Castellane which is located at the cross-roads of the Route Napoléon and the Gorges of Verdon.

With these great roads now on our door step it is only right and proper that we give them their due respect and over the next three days we ride not only these roads but also head to the coast and visit the celebrity town of St Tropez.

Leaving this stunning area behind and riding west we arrive at Mont Ventoux which has long been one of the challenges of the Tour de France.  Although part of the Alps it appears separate from them, like a volcano towering over the Rhône valley. Today we also pass through the Gorges de l'Ardèche whose impressive limestone cliffs wind back and forth and present spectacular viewpoints of the canyon.

More incredible roads follow as we traverse The Cévennes National Park towards another of natures wonders ‘The Gorges Du Tarn’. The gorge itself cuts through limestone plateaux in a precipitous trench 500m deep and 1000 wide. Its sheer and steep sides are cloaked with woods and spiked with pinnacles of eroded rock. To complete a perfect day we continue over the famous Millau Bridge which is the tallest vehicular bridge in the world designed by British architect Norman Foster.

After spending the night in our hotel overlooking a magnificent lake we head north to the small city of Orleans in the Loire region. The old town really is too good to miss so tonight we will spend our last night together in one of the many restaurants which line the narrow streets. There are plenty of bars in the area and of course if you want to take in a few sights there is the fabulous Sainte Croix cathedral, comparable only to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

Reluctantly we have to eventually head for home as we take our final Euro Tunnel journey back to Folkestone.

This tour is simple amazing and a great end to our season. It will be more suited to experienced riders who are used to covering distance over winding and mountainous terrain. Some of the days will be quite long but you will be rewarded with the memories of an absolutely brilliant adventure.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further details.
